OK, well no weight loss or gain, either way that is quite the improvement. She is being a bit more lively and fiesty today as well. I asked her to step up and she gave me one foot and not the other, and chose to bite my finger. Not hard but enough to let me know she had an opinion about me moving too fast for likeness. It may not seem like much but to me it is huge, she is alert enough to not just comply with whatever and let me know she was unhappy about something. This is not something I have seen since starting this process and until it happened I didn't even realize it was missing. So making this little change seems to have made a big difference. Now let's get that weight back up! She did take a few bites of her favorite fruit today, banana, well second favorite, grapes are #1 but mainly for the juice so the banana actually gives her more. I'm feeling a bit more optimistic now that I've seen some natural behaviors come back. I know this is not something that is easy to do and I well researched and then took a long time to think it through, so it's not something I'm going to just give up on because we hit a few bumps as those are completely expected in the first stages of this process. I was fully warned that I needed to follow through and give this process at least three months and I fully intend to do so. I'm documenting all of our bumps and hopefully triumphs as well for others who may consider this as an alternative. Again, I spent five years with Puff going through all the other options available natural wise, if this is something that I should need to discuss at some point I will. After taking a lot of time trying all those choices and failing I've decided after a lot of research, time and consulting my avian vet to go this route. It may not be for every bird and certainly not the first option, depending on the situation. Puff has always chewed her feathers it has been a life long issue and I want to address it before it gets to plucking and even worse chewing the skin. As there we're two incidents where she did chew her skin, so I knew it needed to get addressed now. Every bird is a study of one and something you have to decide for yourself along with knowledge and a good avian vet. I hope our journey helps others.
It has been a while since my last post and even longer since this all started and I only have positivity to share. Puff is getting .02 ml of meds every morning, and only in the morning. So she gets one dose only, every morning with her breakfast, no evening dose and she is doing so amazing. The reason I chose to try cutting out the evening dose was because she was falling from her sleeping perch during the night, and most nights. Because I'm a very light sleeper I would hear her flap and get up to find her on the bottom of her cage looking stunned and a bit dazed. After moving her into my room to sleep so I could better observe, the conclusion I came to was the med was puting her into a very deep sleep and she lost balance control and/or fell as she was relaxing so much into a deep sleep. After stopping the evening dose I was no longer having this issue and she continued to leave all of her feathers in tact. One other thing I decided to do is every other Sunday she gets a med fre...
